What We Do Join The Team FCSAR Team Jr Team Forms Fremont County
The Fremont County Search & Rescue Unit began in the late 1960s as a group of civilians with useful equipment and training. If someone hadn't made it home by a certain time while hunting, fishing, working, or driving in the snow, a concerned party would notify a friend or family member, who would then call one of these individuals to gather a search party. In 1972, these citizens formed the Fremont County Search and Rescue Unit.
FCSAR volunteers came from various walks of life and occupations, including veterans, Civil Air Patrol members, firefighters, and mid-1970s EMTs. Some had snowmobiles, boats, trail bikes, and 4-wheel drive vehicles. In the late 1970s, the unit purchased its first radio repeater, which greatly improved communications across a large part of the county.
