It all begins with an idea.

The Fremont County Search & Rescue Unit is always looking for new members. Prospective members must meet the following criteria:

  • Age requirements

    • Senior Members: 21 years or older

    • Junior Members: 16 to 21 years old

  • Have your own transportation

  • Pass a background check (any felony conviction is ineligible)

The application process:

1. The applicant obtains the application package (from the FCSAR website (https://www.fremontsar.org/join-the-team)) or from the FCSAR secretary.

2. TThe applicant completes the application, including the background check information, and emails it to sar@co.fremont.id.us. Alternatively, the applicant can hand-deliver the package to an FCSAR board member.

3. The applicant calls the Unit Commander (phone number listed at the bottom of this page) to arrange attendance at an FCSAR board meeting. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6 PM, located at 331 W. 1st S., St. Anthony, Idaho.

4. If the board members recommend the applicant, they forward the applicant’s completed background check document to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. If the board members do not recommend the applicant, the unit commander informs the applicant

5. If the applicant passes the background check, they are informed and must attend the next monthly FCSAR business meeting. These meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 PM, located at 331 W. 1st S., St. Anthony, Idaho

6. The applicant will be introduced to the full FCSAR membership and asked to provide a brief background summary and their reasons for wanting to join the unit. The membership may ask additional questions of the applicant.

7. The applicant will be asked to leave the meeting room while the membership votes on their acceptance

8. If the applicant is approved by the full membership, they will be considered a probationary unit member. Probationary members are required to complete 140 hours of service as follows:

• 55 hours of searches

• 44 hours of activities

• 12 hours of training

• 9 hours of meetings

• 20 hours of cleaning and maintenance (FCSAR building and/or equipment)

9. After successfully completing the probationary hours, the FCSAR membership will vote on moving the applicant from probationary status to either senior unit member status or junior member status (under 21 years of age).
