Nov 2 (2024-38) - Missing Hunter off Highway 87 near Reynolds Pass - On November 2, 2024, at 4:50 PM, Fremont County Dispatch received a call from Beaver County, Montana, for a lost hunter near Reynolds Pass on Highway 87. Fremont County Search and Rescue deployed rescue teams with side-by-sides and ATVs to the area. FCSAR established a base camp at a trailhead about 200 yards northwest of Reynolds Pass. Three rescue teams began searching the area of the hunter’s last-known location. At approximately 7:30 PM, two Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputies who were also searching the area located the missing hunter approximately one-half mile east of Cliff Lake in Madison County, Montana. The FCSAR rescue teams drove side-by-sides to the deputies' location and assisted in taking the subject to a waiting ambulance, where he was treated by Fremont EMS personnel and transported to Madison Memorial Hospital.
Nov 1 (2024-37) - Two Lost Hunters on July Creek Road - On November 1, 2024, at 1:19 p.m., Fremont County Dispatch received a 911 call from two hunters who had become disoriented and lost while hunting in the Pine Canyon area of Fremont County. Eight FCSAR members and two Fremont County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the call. FCSAR established a base camp near the intersection of July Creek and Sand Creek roads. The FCSO deputies continued towards the hunter’s last-known location. The rescue teams drove side-by-side vehicles until they encountered deep snow and dangerous driving conditions, at which point they proceeded on foot. The FCSO deputies located the lost hunters and were escorting them out of a steep canyon when FCSAR arrived on scene. FCSAR and FCSO accompanied the hunters safely to their vehicle.
Sep 7 (2024-36) - Mountain Biker Wreck on Targhee Creek Trail - On September 7, 2024, at 1:39 p.m., Fremont County Dispatch received a Garmin SOS emergency notification advising a 41-year-old mountain biker had been in an accident on the Targhee Creek Trail near the Idaho-Montana border. The bicyclist, who is a medical doctor, self-diagnosed significant internal injuries. Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue (FCSAR) volunteers to the mountain biker. FCSAR established a base camp on Highway 20 at the Howard Springs picnic area near the top of Targhee Pass. Two members of the rescue team and a Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputy rode dirtbikes and ATVs toward the injured individual. Before the team reached the patient, Fremont County Dispatch notified the FCSAR commander that the patient had been packaged and loaded into a Life Flight helicopter and was being transported to a hospital in Bozeman, Montana. At 3:15 p.m., the FCSAR commander issued a stand-down order. Several FCSAR members remained at the base camp until the rescue team returned. Base camp was cleared around 4:45 p.m.
Aug 17 (2024-35) - Tuber Stranded Near Box Canyon - On August 17, 2024, at 5:07 p.m., Fremont County Search and Rescue received a call out to assist two tubers who had been floating in the Henry’s Fork River. Just above the Box Canyon campground, the tubers lost their tubes and became stranded on the west side of the river. FCSAR established base camps at the Island Park Dam and at the Box Canyon Campground and developed a multi-pronged rescue plan: 1) Rescue Team 1 would launch the catamaran from the Island Park Dam and float down the river to the stranded tubers; 2) a second team would work their way upstream from the Last Chance launch to Box Canyon; and 3) a third team would walk the west riverbank near Box Canyon to reach the stranded individuals. Before FCSAR rescue teams reached the stranded individuals, another private group that had been floating the river successfully helped the individuals to the east riverbank, where they were reunited with their other party members. The FCSAR Commander issued the stand down at 5:33 p.m.
Aug 9 (2024-34) - Missing Kayaker Near Box Canyon - On August 9, 2024, at 3:29 p.m., Fremont County Search and Rescue received a call out to locate a missing kayaker. The kayaking group started at the Island Park Dam and kayaked to Last Chance. However, when they arrived at Last Chance, one member of the group was missing. The group found his kayak but was unable to locate the kayaker. FCSAR established a base camp at Box Canyon Campground. One rescue team worked their way down from the Island Park dam, and the other started at the Last Chance put-in and worked their way upstream. At 4:01 p.m., FCSAR was notified that the missing kayaker had arrived at the Last Chance takeout. The FCSAR Commander issued the 1022 standdown at 4:03 p.m.
July 27 (2024-33) - Distressed Hiker Near Lower Mesa Falls - On July 27, 2024, at 12:49 p.m., Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue (FCSAR) volunteers to assist a distressed hiker near Lower Mesa Falls. The hiker was dizzy, lightheaded, and unable to walk. FSCAR established base camps at Upper and Lower Mesa Falls. Two members drove vehicles (an ATV and a personal vehicle) down the Mesa Falls Nature Trail path towards the subject's reported location. Other FCSAR members monitored the search and provided radio communication relays from the Lower Mesa Falls parking area. At 1:33 p.m., a rescue team member had a visual of the hiker. A few minutes later, Fremont Dispatch informed FCSAR that bystanders in the area had moved the hiker northward towards the Upper Mesa Falls Visitor Center, where the ambulance was waiting. At 1:40 p.m., the incident commander asked all responders to stand down, and all members cleared the base camps.
July 26 (2024-32) - 24 YOM Passed Out While Floating the Buffalo River - On July 27, 2024, at 2:57, Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue (FCSAR) to assist a group of special needs individuals who were floating the Henry’s Fork River near the Big Springs Boating Launch. A 24-year-old member of the group had passed out but had regained consciousness. Other group members were trying to warm him and get him dry. The group planned to get out of the river but was in an area that was difficult to access. The county coroner and two FCSO deputies had reached the distressed individual and were moving him downstream to meet the FCSAR team. At approximately 5:45 p.m., they successfully got the individual out of the water. Meanwhile, another group member had a seizure and fell into the river. The deputies dove into the water, pulled him out, and got him to the river banks, where he was transported to the waiting ambulance. All members cleared base camp about 30 minutes later.
July 26 (2024-31) - Fishermen with Stranded Boat Below Riverside Campground (Henry's Fork) - At 3:10 p.m. on July 26, 2024, Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue (FCSAR) to assist two fishermen on the Henry's Fork River just south of the Riverside Campground. The fishermen were unable to navigate their boat to the take-out ramp, so they continued floating downstream and landed on the opposite river bank, where their boat became stuck in rocks. They unsuccessfully attempted to pull the boat upstream to the boat take-out. They were unable to get to the west side of the river by the campground because of the fast-flowing river and rocky riverbed and needed assistance. FCSAR established a base camp at Riverside Campground and launched their riverboat from the boat ramp. Rescue team members navigated across, brought the fishermen aboard, and took them upstream to the boat ramp. Several FCSAR members then recrossed the river, navigating to the stranded boat. The FCSAR team floated the fishermen's boat downstream, approximately five miles to the Hatchery Ford takeout.
July 20 (2024-30) - Missing Juvenile Above Mack's Inn Boat Launch - Juvenile was located safe and sound within 20 minutes of the call.
July 19 ( 2024-29) - Distressed kayakers on Henry's Fork on Fisherman's Drive - On July 13, 2024, at 1:42 PM, Fremont County Search and Rescue was activated to assist distressed kayakers on the Henry’s Fork River near Fisherman’s Drive northeast of Ashton. The reporting party (RP) stated he saw a person face-down in the Henry’s Fork river entrance on Fisherman’s Drive. The RP pulled the individual from the river and started CPR until the Fremont County EMS paramedics arrived. The RP also reported that there were possibly two additional individuals missing. FCSAR responders established a base camp near Jump-Off Bridge. Using a jet boat and a catamaran, FCSAR members searched the river up and downstream from the initial reporting point for distressed boaters or kayakers. Additional FCSAR responders walked the riverbanks, searching for distressed individuals. Fortunately, none were found. At 3:31 PM, a Fremont County Sheriff’s deputy informed all responders that everyone had been accounted for and FCSAR could pull their boats off the river. All FCSAR cleared base camp by 5:51 PM.
June 15 (2024-28) - Truck in the River - On June 15, at 12:09 p.m. FCSAR was activated to assist Fremont County EMS treating a river guide with an injured leg. The guide’s boat, trailer, and truck had slipped into the river. The equipment was successfully retrieved by an outside service.
June 9 (2024-27) -Missing Man on Red Road - On June 9, at 12:02 p.m. FCSAR was activated to assist Fremont County Sheriff’s Office in searching for a missing individual last seen on Red Road near St. Anthony.
June 4 (2024-26) - Party Stuck on Flagg-Ranch Road - On June 4, 2024, at 6:45 p.m., Fremont County Search and Rescue was called out to rescue six people, three of whom were small children. The group became stranded in the mud and snow on the Ashton-Flagg Ranch Road, approximately 17 miles east of the state line. FCSAR members located the stuck vehicle, and while they expended a valiant effort to free the vehicle, they were ultimately unsuccessful. FCSAR loaded all of the party members into multiple rescue vehicles, then transported them to base camp.
June 4 (2024-25) - Individual with a Broken Ankle (near Box Canyon) - At 4:59 p.m. on June 4, 2024, Fremont County Search and Rescue assisted Fremont County EMS to rescue an individual who suffered a broken ankle while walking along the river in Box Canyon in Island Park. A man had been walking upstream along the Henry's Fork river near Box Canyon for about one-half a mile when he fell approximately 20 feet. The fall resulted in a broken ankle, which rendered the individual unable to walk. FCSAR and EMS members arrived at the man's location around 6:30 p.m. EMS assessed the individual, stabilized his ankle, and placed him on a Stokes basket litter for transportation to the nearby ambulance. FCSAR members cleared base camp around 7 p.m.
May 31 (2024-24) - Two individuals in Harriman Fish Pond due to a capsized boat - At 12:04 p.m. on May 31, 2024, Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to assist two individuals whose drift boat had capsized on the Harriman Fish Pond. Eight FCSAR members, two Fremont County Deputies, and Fremont County EMS responded to the site and established a base camp on the shoreline of the pond. Using two boats, FCSAR and FCSO personnel retrieved the individuals from the water and returned them safely to the shore. EMS assessed both individuals to ensure they were uninjured.
May 23 (2024-23) - Three people stuck in rental side-by-side on Upper Fish Creek Road - At 1:08 pm, Drew, SR60, called Fremont County Dispatch to report that three visitors who had rented a side-by-side from High County Adventures had become stuck on Upper Fish Creek Road. FCSAR was activated. At 1:36 p.m. Drew reached the stuck party, helped them get turned around, and had developed a plan to get them back on a driveable road. Based on this information, the FCSAR Commander put the unit on standby at 2:06 p.m. After making numerous passes through the deep, fresh snow, Drew was able to extract the side-by-side. The Commander issued the standdown at 4:09 p.m.
May 14 (2024-22) - Motorists Stuck on Flagg Ranch Road - At 6:05 p.m. on May 14, 2024, Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to assist a motorist whose vehicle was stuck in the deep snow on Flagg Ranch Road just west of Moose Lake. The party included a male driver and a female passenger. Ten FCSAR members responded and established a base camp in the parking lot on Flagg Ranch Road. Two members drove personal vehicles to the individuals’ site and got their vehicle unstuck. With one FCSAR member leading the way and a second member following, the motorist drove his vehicle from the rescue site to base camp. The three vehicles reached base camp at 7:58 p.m. All members cleared base camp soon after.
May 3 (2024-21) - Missing person near St. Anthony - At 1:49 AM on May 5, 2024, Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to search for a missing person. The individual had been missing for approximately one hour after leaving a local bar after a fight. His last known location was near the river, which was high and flowing fast. The reporting party expressed concerns about the individual having fallen into the river. At 2:38 AM, Fremont County Dispatch reported that the individual had returned, unharmed, to his apartment.
Apr 2 (2024-20) - Snowmobile Accident Near Stamp Meadows - On April 2, 2024, at 2:42 PM, Fremont County Dispatch activated Search and Rescue to assist with a snowmobile traffic accident near the Stamp Meadows snowmobile trail. Nine FCSAR members responded to the call and established a base camp at the Stamp Meadows parking lot. A rescue team of four FCSAR members, two Deputies and two Detectives from the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, and numerous Emergency Medical Services personnel rode snowmobiles to the accident site. Unfortunately, the snowmobile rider was deceased. EMS, FCSO, and FCSAR responders packaged the individual for transport, and EMS transported him to the base camp on the FCSAR rescue toboggan. Everyone cleared the base camp, and the FCSAR Commander issued the 1022 at 5:27 PM.
Mar 9 (2024-19) - Two missing snowmobilers near Keg Springs - At 5:04 p.m. on March 9, Fremont County Search and Rescue was activated to locate a missing snowmobiler in the Keg Springs area of Island Park. The snowmobiler had been missing from his riding group for approximately three hours. While the FCSAR Incident Commander was en route to base camp, the FCSAR Commander and Fremont Dispatch notified the FCSAR Incident Commander they had received calls and texts from the wife and daughter of another snowmobiler who was missing from the group (missing snowmobiler #2). At 6:40 p.m. FCSAR established a base at the Keg Springs parking lot where he was met by the Reporting Party who informed the Incident Commander that two additional riders were missing (missing snowmobilers #3 and #4). These individuals had gone out searching for the first missing individual and had not been heard from in quite some time. While the rescue teams were searching for missing individual #2, missing individuals #3 and #4 rode into base camp. At approximately 6:55 p.m., missing snowmobiler #1 walked into base camp. He said his snowmobile was stuck in the canyon, and he spent several hours walking out. He was uninjured. FCSAR sent two rescue teams to search for the second missing person. The wife and daughter of this missing snowmobiler continued to communicate with the FCSAR Incident Commander and relayed individual’s GPS coordinates. After receiving various, conflicting GPS coordinates, the rescue team returned to base camp, reassessed the individual’s location, and returned to the mountain. One FCSAR team dropped in from the east side, with the other team dropping in from the west side. The missing snowmobiler was located at 9:56 p.m. FCSAR offered the individual water and snacks, then escorted him to base camp. At base camp, the individual said he was cold but otherwise doing fine. He warmed up in a car with a member of his riding group and returned to his hotel with his group. All FCSAR members cleared base camp at approximately 11 p.m.
Mar 7 (2024-18) - Snowmobile Traffic Accident Near Sawtelle Creek Road-Male with Broken Leg - On March 7, 2024, at 2:46 p.m., Fremont County Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding a snowmobile accident resulting in a rider with a broken leg. The Dispatch Center activated Fremont County Search and Rescue. FCSAR established a base camp at the gate on Sawtell Peak Road. Four FCSAR members and the EMS Director rode snowmobiles toward the individual's location, arriving at the site at 4:50 p.m. Personnel from the life-flight helicopter had just finished assessing and packaging the patient and were loading him into the ship. FCSAR members watched as the flight took off safely, then assisted the patient’s snowmobile party in getting the patient’s snowmobile to a location where the riding party could get it to a place where they could ride it out. All members cleared the base camp around 6 p.m.
Mar 4 (2024-17) - Motorist Stuck on 1000 N Near Squirrel - At 7:08 p.m., on March 4, 2024, Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont Search and Rescue to assist a motorist stuck near Squirrel, Idaho. An FCSO Deputy was able to free the car and resolve the call out. The 1022 was issued by the Commander at 8:20 p.m.
Mar 4 (2024-16) - Two snowmobilers stuck Near Arrange Creek - On March 4, 2024, at 12:51 p.m., Fremont County Search and Rescue was asked to assist two snowmobilers who were stuck near Arrange Creek in Island Park. FCSAR established a base camp at the Blue Creek parking lot. A team of FCSAR members geared up and rode out on snowmobiles up the canyon. The riders split into two teams, with one team riding the lower canyon and the other team searching at the top. At approximately 4:15 p.m., FCSAR made radio contact with the individuals. Using mapping technology, FCSAR pinpointed the men’s location about 300 yards away from their location. At 5:35 p.m., the rescue team made it to the individuals’ location and escorted them out of the canyon. Both rescue teams gathered up, and everyone rode out to the base camp. All members cleared the base camp at 6:40 p.m.
Mar 3 (2024-15) - Three Overdue Snowmobilers near Chick Creek - At 7:26 on March 3, 2024, Fremont County Search and Rescue received a call out to locate three overdue snowmobilers whose last-known location was near Chick Creek Road. The Reporting Party had last heard from the group of snowmobilers around 5 p.m. stating they had stopped at a restauraunt before heading back to their hotel in West Yellowstone. Most of the FCSAR members were returning home from a just-completed search (#2024-14) in Island Park when the unit was activated for this call. Members turned around and headed towards base camp that would be established at the Chick Creek Road parking lot. Several members had reached base camp when Fremont Dispatch notified the FCSAR Commander that the group of riders had safely returned to their hotel in West Yellowstone.
Mar 3 (2024-14) - Snowmobiler Stranded near Reas Peak - At 5:37 p.m. on March 3, 2024, Fremont County Search and Rescue was called out to assist a snowmobiler stuck near Raes Peak with a disabled snowmobile. The reporting party had radio contact with the individual and advised the snowmobiler was approximately 0.5 miles from GPS Coordinates of 44.5260, -111.4690. FCSAR decided to stage at the Blue Creek parking lot. As the unit members were making their way to the staging area, Fremont County dispatch reported that the individual had become mobile and was making his way out of the backcountry. The FCSAR members continued to the staging area in case the individual needed assistance. At approximately 6:15 p.m., the snowmobiler met up with the reporting party, and the two riders made their way to the Blue Creek parking lot. At 6:45 p.m., the two snowmobilers arrived at the parking lot. They rode into the parking lot and continued to their hotel without stopping. All members cleared the base camp at 7:05 p.m.
Mar 2 (2024-13) - Multiple Motorists Stranded on Highway 32 - On March 2, 2024, at 6:04 p.m., Fremont County Search and Rescue was activated to rescue four to six vehicles stuck on Highway 32 just before Drummond, ID. Two individuals reported being stranded for three hours. FCSAR established a base camp at the Loosli Cellar (on E 1000 N, about halfway between Highways 20 and 32). Two FCSAR members towed the Sno-Cat to base camp while other members brought their snowmobiles to the site. Two members drove the Sno-Cat along Highway 32 from base camp approximately 12 miles south to N 4700 E. Approximately seven miles south of base camp, they encountered two people stranded in their vehicle. FCSAR asked them to remain in the vehicle while they continued searching southward. FCSAR did not find any more stranded individuals. On the northbound trip, FCSAR picked up the two stranded individuals they had encountered on the southbound trip and transported them in the sno-cat to base camp. Another FCSAR member transported them to a motel in Ashton. Concurrent with the search conducted by members in the sno-cat, two FCSAR members and one Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputy rode snowmobiles from base camp to the Fremont/Teton county line, searching for stuck vehicles and stranded motorists. Only one abandoned vehicle was found. No stuck or abandoned vehicles were found near Drummond, as described in the call-out information. All members cleared base camp at approximately 10 p.m.
Feb 29 (2024-12) - Three Motorists in Vehicle Stuck on Fish Creek Road - On February 29, 2024, at 5:04 p.m., Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to assist three motorists in a vehicle stuck on Fish Creek Road northeast of Ashton. FCSAR established a base camp on Fish Creek Road, where winter maintenance ends and the road is unplowed. The FCSAR Commander was pulling the unit’s Sno-Cat to base camp and planned to use it to tow the stuck vehicle approximately three-quarters of a mile to the plowed section of the road. While waiting for the Sno-Cat to arrive, two FCSAR responders rode snowmobiles to the stuck vehicle. The rescue team assessed the situation and decided to try driving the truck to base camp. They successfully drove the vehicle, including the three individuals, out to the plowed road to base camp. FCSAR did not need to use the Sno-Cat. At base camp, FCSAR members assessed the individuals, determined they were uninjured, and released them. Two members of the rescue then rode double on a snowmobile to retrieve the member’s snowmobile that had been left at the site of the stuck vehicle. All members cleared the base camp at 7 p.m.
Feb 27 (2024-11) - Motorist Assist-Vehicle Stuck on Sand Creek Road - On February 27, 2024, at 9:23 p.m., Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to assist a motorist who was stuck on Sand Creek Road. Two FCSAR members responded to the call and established a base camp on Sand Creek Road, where winter road maintenance ends. The members rode snowmobiles to the individual. After examining him and determining he was uninjured, they transported him to Maverick’s in St. Anthony. The individual will retrieve the car later. FCSAR cleared the call at 11:04 p.m.
Feb 27 (2024-10) - Two snowmobilers stuck below Arrange Peak - On February 27, 2024, at 8:30 p.m., Fremont County Dispatch activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to aid two snowmobilers who were stuck just below Arrange Peak in Island Park. FCSAR established a base camp at the Blue Creek parking lot. Five FCSAR riders and two members of the reporting party rode snowmobiles toward the individuals’ last known location. The team stopped near the top of a drainage about 1,500’ below Arrange Peak when they noticed a light below them. They determined this was a light from a cabin, but they then noticed another light immediately below them, which was the stuck riders. FCSAR made verbal and radio contact with the individuals and instructed the riders to change their BCA radios to a specific channel. After a short discussion, one snowmobiler said he wanted to ride out of the drainage; the second rider said he wanted to walk to the top. Several members of the rescue team snowshoed down on the individuals, freed the stuck snowmobile, and escorted the second rider to the top of the ridge. FCSAR members had started a large fire where the riders warmed up. The FCSAR team then accompanied them to base camp with one individual riding his personal snowmobile and the other individual being transported by an FCSAR member on a unit snowmobile. An FCSAR paramedic evaluated the individuals and determined they were uninjured and no medical treatment was needed. Everyone waited at base camp for members of the reporting party to bring a trailer to haul the individuals’ snowmobiles back to their lodging. All members cleared the base camp at 2:08 a.m.
Feb 21 (2024-09) - Snowmachine Traffic Accident on Two Top Trail - On-site personnel said SAR could stand down; 1022 issued 0:57 minutes after call out/
Feb 19 (2024-08) - Medical incident on Sawtelle Peak Road - Subject made his way back to the trail. Search cancelled 25 minutes after call out.
Feb 12 (2024-07) - Three missing snowmobilers near Blue Creek - On February 12, 2024, at 5:18 PM, Fremont County Search and Rescue was dispatched to locate three missing snowmobilers. FCSAR set up base camp at the Blue Creek parking lot. Five members on snowmobiles rode toward the subjects’ last-known location. At 7:49 PM, FCSAR located the subjects, who were in good condition and uninjured. FCSAR members freed the three stuck snowmobiles and then escorted the subjects to base camp. Everyone cleared base camp at 8:52 PM.
Feb 10 (2024-06) - Missing Snowmobiler near Two Top Heading towards West Yellowstone - On February 10, 2024, at 10:48 PM, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office dispatched Fremont County Search and Rescue to locate a missing snowmobiler. The subject was last known to be riding towards West Yellowstone, where he and his brother were staying. FCSAR established a base camp at the Red Rocks parking lot. As FCSAR members were making their way towards base camp, Fremont County Dispatch informed the Unit Commander that they had pinged the subject’s phone and confirmed he was near Correct Ridge Road and heading towards West Yellowstone. At 12:21 PM, Fremont County Dispatch informed the FCSAR Commander that Gallatin County Search and Rescue (MT) had reached out to provide assistance. At 12:25 PM, Fremont County Dispatch radioed that they had received a call from Shane at Gallatin County Search and Rescue stating that the subject had just arrived at the hotel (Days Inn in West Yellowstone), and both the reporting party and the subject were accounted for.
Feb 05 (2024-05) - Stuck Snowmobiler on Power Line Road/Trail - On February 5, 2024, at 6:22 PM, the Fremont County Dispatch department activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to assist a snowmobiler who was stuck on the Powerline Road/Trail. The subject had tried three times to ride up an incline but was unable to get to the top and needed assistance to get out of the area. FCSAR established a base camp at the Elk Creek Station parking lot and sent a team of two riders to the subject’s location. One of the FCSAR members was able to ride the subject’s snowmobile to the top of the incline. The two FCSAR members then escorted the subject to FCSAR’s base camp. All FCSAR members cleared base camp at 8 p.m.
Feb 03 (2024-04) - Missing snowmobiler in Keg Springs area - On February 2, 2024, at 4:42 PM, the Fremont County Dispatch department activated Fremont County Search and Rescue to locate a missing snowmobiler in the Keg Springs area of Island Park. His riding party had last seen him at the top of a bowl around 1:15 p.m. The subject’s phone is off. His last known location was 9.17 miles northwest of Sawtelle Tower at 2:49 PM. FCSAR established base camp at the Keg Springs parking lot and sent four teams of two riders into the area. The subject’s wife and another member of the subject’s team rode snowmobiles to the last-known location. From there, the teams searched numerous canyons in the area and located the subject at approximately 10:30 PM near the bottom of an extremely steep canyon that was unsafe to navigate on snowmobiles. The rescue team discussed several options to get the subject out of the canyon, including trying to get to the bottom, using ropes to haul the subject to the top of the canyon, and using Two Bear Air Rescue and Air Idaho (weather conditions prevented the choppers from flying). Two FCSAR members snowshoed to the subject's location, assessed his injuries (arm and leg), and determined he was sufficiently mobile and able to move towards the canyon ridge. As the FCSAR members assisted the subject up the canyon, other FCSAR members rode a short distance into the canyon and met the subject. An FCSAR member rode the subject’s snowmobile to the top. The subject was transported from the canyon ridge to the base camp for further evaluation by Fremont County EMS.
Jan 24 (2024-03) - Snowmobile Traffic Accident in Black Canyon - An FCSAR member was riding with a party of four snowmobile riders in Black Canyon when he heard a call for help on his BCA radio. The caller stated there had been a snowmobile accident, and the machine ended up on top of the rider. The FCSAR member was about 0.5 miles away from the accident site. He and his party rode to the accident site, and the FCSAR member rode off-trail to the subject while the other riders in his party remained near the trail and started a fire. By the time the FCSAR member reached the subject, the subject’s party of eight riders had pulled the snowmobile off the rider and administered CPR. After examining the subject, the FCSAR member helped the subject to his feet. Approximately 15 minutes later, he guided the subject about 50 yards to the fire. EMTs and paramedics from Fremont County Emergency Services examined the subject, found no medical problems, and released him.
Jan 13 (2024-02) - Three stranded snow bikers up Willow Creek near Montana border - At 6:32 PM, FCSAR received a call-out to assist three snow bike riders who were stuck in the canyon up Willow Creek. FCSAR responded with snowmobiles and the Mobile Command Center and set up base at the Willow Creek parking lot. Six FCSAR members rode up the canyon towards the stuck party. Around 9:50 PM, they located the three riders approximately 0.25 miles into Montana (Beaverhead County). The three riders were unable to ride out of the canyon, so they rode double with FCSAR team members back to base camp. It was a challenging and slow ride out, but everyone arrived safely at base camp around 10:50 PM. All members cleared base camp around 11:20 PM. All FCSAR members were home by 12:55 PM on 01/14/2024.
Jan 01 (2024-01) - Two Teenagers Stranded Below the Chester Dam - At 6:59 AM, Fremont County dispatched FCSAR to rescue two teenagers (17 and 18 years old) who were stranded on a small island below the Chester Dam. Nine FCSAR members responded and established a base camp near the Chester Dam. FCSAR rescue team members were stationed on both sides of the Henry's Fork River. At 7:25 AM, verbal contact was made with the two subjects. The rescue team was preparing to launch FCSAR's catamaran when the two subjects became slightly panicked and began to wade across the river. The subjects successfully crossed the river and were met by FCSAR members, who helped the subjects change out of their wet clothing into warm, dry clothes and blankets before loading them into a warm truck. One subject was transported to the hospital, and the other subject went home with his parents.

Dec 18 (2023-33) - Missing Person - Five Miles into the Desert - At 8:21 PM on December 18, 2023, FCSAR was called out to search for a missing 20-year-old man. His truck was located approximately five miles north of Broulim’s in St. Anthony. Nineteen FCSAR members responded and searched countless roads in the area in vehicles and side-by-sides. On December 19, 2023, at 00:49, the FCSAR Commander suspended the search with plans to meet with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at 9 AM. At 7:15 AM on December 19, 2023, the Commander placed several FCSAR members on standby pending the outcome of discussions with the sheriff’s office. At 8:26 AM, the Commander issued a stand-down because the subject had been found and was being transported to the hospital.
Dec 16 (2023-32) - Bingham County Assist - search for Pocatello teen who fell in the Snake River on 12/06/23 - The Bingham County Sheriff requested assistance from Fremont County Search and Rescue in the search for a teen who fell into the Snake River on December 6, 2023. FCSAR and the Fremont County Sheriff's each launched boats from the dam boat launch. Each group traveled 18 miles each way to the search area. The subject was not found.
Oct 29 (2023-31) - Hunters Truck is are Stuck in the Mud
Oct 25 (2023-30) - Missing Male - Sand Creek - At 3:45 PM on October 25, 2023, Fremont County Search and Rescue was dispatched to the Sand Creek area to locate a missing rancher who had been out rounding up cattle. The subject was riding a 4-wheeler that became high-centered on a log. The subject is not in good health, so he was unable to walk out, and he decided to wait for help. The weather was rainy and cool. The subject was hypothermic when Fremont County Sheriff’s Office deputies and FCSAR members located the subject at approximately 5:17 PM. The subject was transported via a side-by-side to a waiting ambulance. The FCSAR commander issued the 1022 at 6:04 PM.
Sept 03 (2023-29) - 52-year-old male slipped off Sawtelle Mountain - At approximately 10 AM on 9/3/23, a 52-year-old male was walking on Sawtelle Peak in Island Park with family members. Dense fog limited visibility, and the male slipped and fell approximately 75 yards down a rocky embankment. Fremont County Search and Rescue established a base camp on the top of Sawtelle Peak at 9,884 feet. Battling near zero visibility, gusty winds, rain and sleet, and unstable terrain FCSAR and EMS members rappelled 300 feet down to the subject. EMS provided life-saving care to the patient then secured him in a rescue basket. FCSAR and FCSO team members hauled the patient to base camp. An air ambulance evacuated the patient to a nearby hospital. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office, Fremont County Search & Rescue, Fremont County EMS, and the Idaho Department of Fish & Game all participated in the rescue.

July 26 (2023-26) - Missing Person - East of Harriman State Park - At 11:23 AM on July 5, 2023, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office dispatched Fremont County Search and Rescue to assist in locating a 35-year-old male who had been missing since approximately 7:00 PM the previous evening. The Reporting Party was uncertain of the Subject’s direction of travel but advised FCSAR of several of the Subject’s favorite locations. Riding dirt bikes or ATVs, twelve FCSAR members searched for the Subject on or near the county roads. The search along or near the county roads was unsuccessful in locating the Subject. Working from base camp, the FCSAR members began a grid search and found the Subject at 6:00 PM, approximately 0.6 miles south of the FCSAR base camp.

June 20 (2023-23) - Missing Kayaker on the Fall River - On June 20, 2023, at 8:41 PM, Fremont County Search & Rescue was dispatched to locate a missing/overdue kayaker on the Falls River. The Subject put in his kayak just below Cave Falls at approximately 15:30 and was two hours overdue when the Reporting Party called Fremont Dispatch. Twelve members of FCSAR responded to the call establishing base camp at a parking lot on Grassy Lake Road at the U.S. Forest Service boundary. Two members drove a side-by-side east on Cave Falls Road to Sheep Falls (the first major obstacle on the river), three other members searched the lower river near the Yellowstone Diversion dam, and two other members drove a vehicle up the private road bordering the river farther south. Members were searching the river and the riverbanks when Fremont Dispatch informed FCSAR that the Subject had returned to his cabin on the river (4777 E. 1200 N.) and was code 4. FCSAR issued the 1022, members returned to base camp,.

April 1 (2023-18) - Motorist Assist - Stuck in a Snowdrift east of Henry's Lake Boat Access - At 4:09 PM on April 1, 2023, FCSAR received a Motorist Assist call-out. A woman and her dog were stuck on Red Rock Pass Road in a snow drift east of Henry’s Lake boat lake access point. The high winds were creating white-out conditions and deep, heavy snow drifts. FCSAR established a base camp at the Red Rock Pass Road parking lot and started driving personal vehicles to the subject’s location. An FCSAR member who lives in the area reached the subject with his personal tractor with a snow blower and got the vehicle unstuck and cleared the snow drift so the subject could proceed. Numerous other people, including FCSO and FCSAR personnel, had become stuck. Because the deep snowdrifts were closing most of the road, the team had another member haul the Tucker snowcat up from the FCSAR building in St. Anthony to the deputy’s location. Using the snowcat and the tractor, the team freed all vehicles, then headed toward base camp. This rescue effort took approximately 4.5 hours. As the snowcat returned to FCSAR base camp, they encountered a party of five people who were making their way, on foot, to their cabin. The FCSAR team loaded the party members into the snowcat, took them to their cabin, and returned them to the parking lot where their vehicle was located. This rescue effort took approximately 1.25 hours (12:15 AM to 1:40 AM).
March 10 (2023-17) - Public Assist - Vehicle stuck near party's AirBnB
March 4 (2023-16) - Snowmobiler separated from partner between Reas Peak and Blue Creek - On 03/04/2023, Fremont County Dispatch received a call from the Reporting Party stating he and his snowmobile companion had inadvertently separated. Fremont County Search and Rescue was dispatched at 16:14. Unit members established a base camp at the Blue Creek parking lot. The FCSAR Commander was in communication with the RP who agreed to meet FCSAR at base camp and lead them to the subject's last-known location. The subject was not at the last-known location. Riding snowmobiles and snow bikes, FCSAR members searched canyons, ridges, and meadows in the area. At 2:45 PM on 03/05/2023, the FCSAR Commander suspended the search with a plan to reconvene the following morning. At 8:45 AM on 03/05/2023, FCSAR resumed the search. A private party located the subject at 1207 PM. The private party and the subject rode double on the private party's snowmobile to the FCSAR base camp. Fremont County EMS assessed the subject. After EMS released the subject, family members transported him home in a private vehicle. The FCSAR Commander issued the 1022 at 1:36 PM.
February 26 (2023-15) - Reporting party stuck on Highway 32 near the corner of 800 N.
February 25 (2023-14) - Lost Snowmobilers Near Mt. Jefferson - On 02/25/2023, Fremont County Dispatch received a call from the Reporting Party stating he and his riding companion were lost. The Reporting Party had blown the clutch on his snowmobile, so he and his riding companion had doubled up on the working snowmobile and tried to find their way out but had gotten lost. They were warm and had no medical conditions or issues. Fremont County Search and Rescue was dispatched at 7:18 PM. FCSAR set up base camp at the Blue Creek parking lot. Seven members headed toward the subjects' location, reaching them at 9:53 PM. The rescue team hauled the subjects off the mountain and to the FCSAR base camp. They arrived at base camp at 10:28 PM. An FCSAR member took the subjects to their Airbnb. The Unit Commander issued the 1022 code at 21134 PM.
February 16 (2023-13) - Snowmobile Traffic Accident near Sawtelle - On February 16, 2023, at 2:49 PM, Fremont County Dispatch received a report of a snowmobile accident near the Idaho-Montana border. The Reporting Party stated there were three riders in the party; one rider had suffered a broken foot. Several FCSAR members were at the Island Park EMS building, wrapping up a three-day search. Base camp was established at the Willow Creek parking lot. FCSAR members reached the subject around 16:30. They provided medical care and packaged him for the air ambulance. After the air ambulance cleared, FCSAR members returned to base camp clearing with all members clearing base at approximately 7:00 PM.
February 14 (2023-12) - Missing Snowmobiler - On 02/14/2023, Fremont County Dispatch received a call requesting help in locating a missing snowmobiler. FCSAR was dispatched at at 12:08 PM, and set up base camp at High Mountain Adventures in Island Park. Five FCSAR members headed out on snowmobiles in search of the missing rider. In winter blizzard conditions, they rode the numerous groomed trails in the area and searched across Henry's Lake Flats. Due to weather conditions and darkness, the search was temporarily halted at 1:00 AM on 02/15/2023. On 02/15/23 at 8:30 AM, FCSAR members met at the Island Park EMS building. After discussing search strategy they continued the search. Eleven FCSAR members searched from approximately 0930 to 1700. But unfortunately, were not able to locate the snowmobiler. On 02/16/2023, five FCSAR members continued searching and located and recovered the snowmobiler at approximately 1:00. AM
February 14 (2023-11) - Two females stuck on snowmobiles near Stamp Meadows (in a vehicle)
February 3 (2023-10) - Injured snowmobiler near Blue Creek - On February 3, 2023, Fremont County Dispatch received a call requesting assistance for a snowmobiler who had suffered a leg injury after hitting a tree. Fremont County Search and Rescue received a call-out at 12:13 PM. FCSAR set up base camp at the Blue Creek parking lot. Two members rode snowmobiles toward the subject's location, reaching him at approximately 3:00 PM. The FCSAR members packaged the subject and transported him approximately 1.25 miles to a waiting air ambulance. The FCSAR rescue team members returned to base camp. The Unit Commander issued the 1022 code at 3:47 PM.
February 1 (2023-09) - Assist Beaverhead County Montana-snowmobiler with a broken leg, need a ground team to get with the LZ
January 29 (2023-08) - Four snowmobilers stuck with four snowmobiles NE of Island Park Reservoir
January 23 (2023-07) - Three snowmobilers stuck in a ravine NW of Keg Springs parking - On January 23, 2023, at 7:22 PM Fremont County Dispatch received a call from Clark County Sheriff's office call stating two snowmobilers were stuck in a ravine with their snowmobiles. FCSAR set up base camp at the Keg Springs Parking lot and five members rode snowmobiles toward the subjects' location, reaching them at approximately 10:30 PM, at which time the FCSAR team learned there were three subjects instead of two, as initially reported. The FCSAR quickly dug out two of the three snowmobiles and escorted two subjects to the ridge top near a fire that other FCSAR team members had started. The third sled was stuck deep in the ravine and could not be recovered during the rescue operation. An FCSAR member and the third subject doubled up on a snowmobile and were able to ride to the ridge top where the rest of the FCSAR team and the other two subjects were warming near the fire. After the subjects had warmed up, the FCSAR team escorted the three subjects to base camp with two subjects riding their snowmobiles and the third subject doubled up with an FCSAR member. The team and subjects reached base camp at approximately 0:52 AM (on 01-24-23). Everyone cleared base camp 1:15 AM.
January 20 (2023-06) - Two Stuck Snowmobilers near Targhee Creek Headwaters - On January 20, 2023, at 5:01 PM Fremont County Dispatch received a non-emergency call stating the Reporting Party and one other subject were stuck on their snowmobiles near the head of Targhee Creek and they could not get the snowmobiles out on their own. The subjects had water, food, and outdoor gear. FCSAR set up base camp at the Howard Springs Parking lot and 10 members rode snowmobiles toward the subjects' location and reached them around 20:00. The FCSAR team got the subjects' snowmobiles unstuck, then escorted both subjects to the FCSAR base camp where the subjects had parked their vehicle. FCSAR members cleared base camp at approximately 9:40 PM.
January 14 (2023-05) - Two Stuck Snowmobilers NW of Harriman State Park - On Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 5:35 PM Fremont County Dispatch received a received a 911 call from a snowmobile group requesting help. The reporting party was with his 15-year-old son northwest of Harriman State Park when one of their snowmobiles ran out of gas. It was dark, and one snowmobile did not have a headlight. They were well-dressed for the weather and warm, but needed help in returning to their cabin in Shotgun. FCSAR set up base camp at the Keg Springs parking lot. At approximately 7:30 PM, a team of four FCSAR members on snowmobiles headed toward the reporting party's location. The rescue team located the reporting party at 8:31 PM and by 8:45 PM; they headed back to the FCSAR base camp. Because of the maze of trails, springs, creeks, and fences in the area, the travel was extremely slow. The rescue party and subjects were back at base camp at 10:28 PM.
January 12 (2023-04) - Snowmobile stuck near Two Top - At 4:53 PM on January 12, 2023, FCSAR was dispatched to help two riders who had gotten stuck on their snowmobile near Two Top. Thirteen FCSAR members responded and set up base camp in the Red Rocks parking lot. Seven FCSAR members rode snowmobiles up the trail toward the subjects' location. Just before reaching the subjects' location, Dispatch notified FCSAR that the subjects had called Fremont County Dispatch, stating that another party had ridden by and freed the stuck snowmobile. Dispatch advised FCSAR they could stand down because the riders were back on the trail. The rescue team returned to base camp at 7:06 PM.
January 3 (2023-03) - Four Snowmobilers Stuck East of Big Springs - On January 3, 2023, at 7:31 PM Fremont County Dispatch received a 911 call that four riders and four snowmobiles were stuck were stuck. The subjects had unsuccessfully tried to free snowmobiles. They were exhausted and wet, but had no injuries. FCSAR set up base camp at the Big Springs Warming Hut and ten members rode snowmobiles toward the subjects' location. At 10:30 PM Dispatch notified FCSAR that one member of the snowmobiling party was becoming hypothermic and had been going in and out of consciousness. At 10:59 PM, FCSAR members reached the subjects. They loaded the hypothermic subject onto a snowmobile and transported him out of the canyon to where other FCSAR members had built a large fire. After warming the patient, FCSAR members transported the patient to base camp, where EMS assessed his condition and provided medical attention. FCSAR members safely escorted the remaining three subjects to base camp. FCSAR members cleared base camp on January 4 at 2:20 AM.
January 2 (2023-02) - Stuck ATV on Snowmobile Trail - On Monday, January 2, 2023, at 3:48 p.m. Fremont County dispatch center received a 911 call requesting assistance to free a stuck ATV. The reporting party is the husband of the subject of the search that had successfully concluded approximately 30 minutes previously (Search 2023-01). He and a friend were riding towards his wife's location when they became stuck and could not free the ATV. Four FCSAR members rode their snowmobiles to the reporting party's location and, after significant effort, they were able to free the ATV. An FCSAR member rode the ATV to a nearby road, where the reporting party was able to safely ride it back to his cabin. All FCSAR members returned to base camp at 6:30 PM.

November 7 (2022-31) - Missing Hunter on Fall River Ridge Road - Dispatch paged FCSAR out at 7:50 PM. The responders made base camp at the Fall River Ridge Road parking lot and drove a 4x4 truck, a snowmobile, and four-wheelers down Fall River Ridge Road to the subject's location. The responders transported the subject to base camp where his family was waiting.
October 29 (2022-31) - Butte County Assist - Missing 73-Year-Old Hunter - Six FCSAR responders met at headquarters in St. Anthony and traveled to the Base Camp near Howe. FCSAR members used their personal ATVs to transport responders and equipment from place to place during the search. A canine responder located the subject at approximately 1:40 PM
October 28 (2022-30) - Missing 26-Year-Old Male in Island Park - FCSAR arrived at Base Camp at 11:08 AM and located the subject at 11:22 in the river. FCSAR responders transported the subject to the ambulance at the shoreline via boat.
October 10 (2022-29) - Lost Hunter on Red Road - When a hunter did not return at the expected time, the Reporting Party called the Sheriff's office. At 8:20 PM FCSAR received the page out. At approximately 8:56 PM FCSO, Dispatch reported that the Reporting Party had found the subject.
September 25 (2022-28) - Public Assist - Lost hikers near Dry Creek - Two individuals were trying to hike out of Divide Creek and got stuck. They were unable to return via the same route. FCSAR personnel and an IDFG Conservation Officer located the hikers and transported them out via ATV.
August 23 (2022-27) - Male with broken leg near Henry's Lake - An emergency communication device notified emergency personnel that the wearer had fallen and was not responding. Fremont County personnel contacted the subject and determined he had a broken leg. The subject was near shoreline of Henry’s Lake but the water was too shallow and rocky to rescue via boat. EMS personnel stabilized and packaged the subject. FCSAR transported the subject along the shoreline to the boat dock to the air ambulance.
August 18 (2022-26) - Suicidal male in Island Park.
August 10 (2022-25) - Missing four-year-old in Island Park.
August 6 (2022-24) - Water Call - overdue kayakers near Mesa Falls - Four people were kayaking and the Reporting Party just missed them and became worried about the kayaking party. FCSAR found the kayakers at Stone Bridge.
July 7 (2022-23) - Reporting party was with a group floating from Riverside Campground to Mesa Falls. RP advised about 20 minutes into the float they came across the subject on the west side of the river. The group was unable to get the subject’s attention.
July 7 (2022-22) - Female called stating she was worried for her brother who had texted stating he needed help because he had fallen into water after getting lost in a field.
July 6 (2F.2022-23) - Unresponsive person on the river bank - A group of people who were floating RP from Riverside Campground to Mesa Falls. About 20 minutes into their float trip they noticed a person on the west side of the river. The person was balled-up, lying on their side, and unresponsive to the group’s attempts to communicate with him. When the group reached an area with cell service they called 911. FCSAR responded with ropes, baskets, and chainsaws, and set up Base Camp at Graveyard Flats. FCSAR responders treated the subject, called Life Flight, and carried the subject to the landing zone they had set up.

February 5 (2022-07) - Two injured snowmobilers in Black Canyon.
January 14 (2022-06) - Around 5:20 PM, January 14th, Fremont County Search & Rescue responded to Two Top Mountain to locate and assist 2 snowmobilers who were not dressed to be out after dark, and one was suffering from stomach issues and not feeling well. They did not have enough water and were not sure how to get back down the mountain. Searchers worked their way into the individuals locating them at 8:35 PM on a steep ridge. Both sleds were running but stuck. The searchers freed the stuck snowmobiles and lead the individuals back down to base camp where EMS assessed their health and released them. Search members gave them a ride back to their cabin.
January 8 (2022-05) - At 6:06 PM, January 8th Fremont County Search & Rescue responded to the report of three snowmobilers stuck in a bowl. There were five in the party and two were able to climb out to call for help. The snow conditions were terrible and it made travel difficult. The rescuers located the individuals at 10:55 PM and it took 2 1/2 hours to get them all out of the bowl and back to base camp.
January 7 (2022-04) - As Fremont County Search and Rescue was just finishing up the multi-vehicle car crash, they were dispatched to a car stuck in a drift West of Henry's lake. The Rescuers focused their efforts on the stuck vehicle and moved base camp to the county boat docks. A couple of teams of snowmobilers went in and were unable to locate the vehicle. It was later discovered that a person in a 4-wheel drive pickup pulled the individual out and they continued on their way.
January 7 (2022-03) - Around 3:42 PM on January 7 Fremont County Search & Rescue responded to Island Park to assist with a 20-plus vehicle accident on Highway 20 at MP 397.
January 4 (2022-02) - On January 4th, several Fremont County Search and Rescue members and a few men from Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center snowmobiled into the Centennial Mountain Range to assess the Avalanche Conditions and view danger areas that have already slid. Around 2:07 PM one of the GNFAC rolled his snowmobile down a steep slope and injured his shoulder. The rest of Search & Rescue and EMS were paged out. After the Medical Helicopter was unable to fly to the scene due to weather, the patient was assessed and brought out via snowmobile and sleigh. It was a long and rough trip off of the mountain. The ambulance transported the patient to the hospital.
January 1 (2022-01) - On January 1 at approximately 3 PM, Fremont County Search & Rescue responded to Coyote Meadows for a lost snowmobiler with breathing issues and needing medical attention. The individual was located by the family shortly after Search & Rescue arrived at base camp.

December 3 (2F.2021-37) - Stranded Ice Fisherman Rescued from Henrys Lake - On Sunday morning at approximately 9:30 AM, Fremont County emergency personnel were alerted to a group of ice fishermen on Henrys Lake who became stranded on the lake. FCSAR members rowed a raft to the group, assisted them into the raft, and returned to the shoreline. EMS personnel evaluated the individuals.
July 5 (2F.2021-22) - Missing kayaker in Fremont County has been found safe and sound. Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries said the kayaker was separated from his group while recreating on the Warm River just before 6 p.m. Search and Rescue located him about 30 minutes later.

Mar. 12 (2F-2021-13) – Stranded Snowmobilers on Two Top – On March 12 at 5:43 PM, Fremont County SAR was dispatched to the Two Top area in Island Park to assist two snowmobilers free their stuck snowmobiles. One of the snowmobiles had hit a tree and needed repair; fortunately, the rider was unharmed. A search team left base camp from the Red Rocks parking lot. At 8:11 PM they encountered personnel from the snowmobile rental company escorting the two snowmobilers down the trail. The rental company led the snowmobilers back to West Yellowstone and the search and rescue team returned to base camp.
Mar. 7 (2F-2021-12) — Stranded Snowmobilers off Mesa Falls Trail – On March 7 at 3 PM , Fremont County Search and Rescue was dispatched to assist two snowmobilers who were stuck near the Mesa Falls Trail near the intersection of highways 47 and 20 north of Harriman State Park. The search team reached the stranded party at 4:17 PM and freed the stuck snowmobile. FCSAR members assessed the individuals and determined they were able to travel. The rescue team led the snowmobilers to the groomed trail where they continued toward their cabin.
Mar. 6 (2F-2021-11) – Stranded snowmobiler off USFS road 631F - On March 6, 2021, at 8:03 PM, Fremont County Search and Rescue was dispatched to locate a 50-year-old snowmobiler who became separated from her group and was stuck. Two FCSAR rescue teams were sent into the field. One team located the lost female freed the stuck snowmobile and led her back to her cabin. The other rescue team located the remaining riders from the woman’s group. Two other FCSAR members found two additional members from the snowmobiling group waiting in a vehicle on the old Chick Creek Road.
Mar. 6 (2F-2021-10) – Injured snowmobiler in Black Canyon – On March 6, 2021, at 12:41 PM, the Fremont County Search and Rescue Unit was dispatched to assist Island Park EMS with an 18-year-old male. Base camp was established in the North Big Springs Loop Road parking lot. Two search teams were deployed and the injured individual was located approximately two miles off the main trail. The rescue team determined that he could be transported via the EMS medical sled to the Big Springs Warming Hut. The party was then transported to the hospital via private vehicle.
Feb. 21 (2F.2021-09) — Stranded ATVers near Cub Scout camp — At 3:06 PM on February 21, FCSAR was dispatched to a cabin on Griffel Court in Island park to assist two individuals whose side-by-side was stuck in deep snow. At 4:30 PM the FCSAR search team reached the stuck party and gave them a ride back to Highway 20 on snowmobiles.
Feb. 20 (2F.2021-08) -- Stranded motorist in white-out on Highway 32 -- At 9:31 AM on February 20, FCSAR was dispatched to the Lamont area of Highway 32 to assist two female motorists stuck in a snowdrift under white-out weather conditions. Because of blowing and drifting snow, IDOT had closed the road at 9 AM. FCSAR set up base camp at the intersection of 1000 N and Highway 32. One FCSAR rescue team brought the Sno-Cat and several four-wheel-drive vehicles to base camp. Additionally, one FCSAR member responded from his home near Ashton and rode a snowmobile to search towards the Lamont area. At 10:58 AM the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch informed FCSAR that the two individuals had been pulled out and were heading back home. FCSO Dispatch stated that they had not received any additional reports of stranded vehicles. However, FCSAR decided to double-check Highway 32 to the county line before issuing a stand-down order. When rechecking the area, the FCSAR member at Lamont encountered a vehicle and had them return towards Teton County. The same FCSAR member also located yet another vehicle stuck. The member gave the driver a ride to the Sno-Cat. FCSAR pulled the vehicle out of the middle of the road so it would not impede the IDOT plows.
Feb. 17 (2F.2021-07) — Two injured skiers at the Warm River Cabin -- At 7:54 PM on February 17, FCSAR was dispatched to Highway 47 to locate two skiers reported to have ankle injuries. A member of the ski party had called her father and left a voice message. However, because of poor cell service in the area, the voice message was garbled and the call was dropped before the message was complete. The father thought the voice message stated that two skiers had twisted an ankle. Based on that information he called 911 and FCSAR rescue teams were dispatched. At 9:47 PM one of the FCSAR search teams located the ski party at Warm River Cabin, but nobody in the ski party had sustained any injuries. The search teams returned to base camp at Bear Gulch.
Feb. 6 (2F.2021-06) — Stranded motorist on Highway 32 – Three travelers in a Nissan Armada were stuck in a snowdrift near milepost 17 on Highway 32. The highway had been closed to vehicle travel because of drifting and blowing snow. The travelers had fuel, some food, and soda. Before FCSAR could reach the stranded vehicle, a passerby was able to pull it out of the snowbank.
Feb. 1 (2F.2021-05) — Retrieve injured snowmobiler near Hell Roaring Canyon -- At 12:21 PM on February 1, Fremont County Search & Rescue was dispatched to Hell Roaring Canyon in Island Park (Centennial Mountain range) to assist EMS retrieve an injured snowmobiler who had a lower-leg fracture. As FCSAR was establishing basecamp at the Stamp Meadows parking area, the reporting party (RP) informed Fremont County Sheriff's Dispatch that they had requested a medevac helicopter. The FCSAR remained on standby at base camp in case they were needed to help bring the patient out by ground. At approximately 2:10 PM the RP informed the Fremont County Sheriff's dispatcher that the helicopter had successfully retrieved the patient.
Jan. 31 (2F.2021-04) — Eight separated snowmobilers east of Blue Creek — At 6:58 PM on January 31, 2021, Fremont County Search & Rescue responded to the Blue Creek parking area to help six stranded snowmobilers free their stuck sleds and locate two additional members of their party who had separated from the group earlier.
Six snowmobilers were located east of Blue creek at 9:43 PM. Shortly afterward, the FCSAR received information that the other two snowmobilers had found a trail and were heading back to their cabin. As the search teams helped get the six snowmobiles unstuck, a Fremont County Sheriff’s Office Deputy went to the cabin to confirm the two other snowmobilers had arrived. A female at the cabin told the deputy she would call when they returned. Soon thereafter, the six snowmobilers made it to the FCSAR base camp. The female at the cabin called the FCSO deputy to inform him the other two snowmobilers had returned to the cabin.
Jan. 30 (2F.2021-03) — Four lost snowmobilers in Black Canyon — On Saturday, January 30, at 6:36 PM, Fremont County Search & Rescue was dispatched to the Black Canyon Trail to locate four snowmobilers who were disorientated and unsure of the way back to their cabin. Two search teams rode out on two separate trails. When the first team made it to the lost party’s reporting location, the search team discovered the party was no longer at that location. After some investigation, FCSAR discovered and verified that another snowmobile group had found the lost party and lead them out after which the reporting party was able to return to their cabin.
Jan. 26 (2F.2021-02) — Stranded kayaker on the Henry's Fork — On January 26th at 11:17 AM, Fremont County Search and Rescue was dispatched to the Henry's Fork of the Snake River near the end of the State Section Access Road to assist a 25-year-old male kayaker from Tennessee. On January 25, the kayaker had decided to kayak from Osborne Bridge to Sheep Falls. Once he reached his destination, a friend had planned to snowmobile into the river to meet the kayaker to bring him back to his vehicle. Unfortunately, the kayak started taking on water so the kayaker decided to get out of the river. The temperatures dropped to minus 19-degrees overnight, but the kayaker was prepared for an overnight stay with a sleeping bag and fire-starters. In the morning the kayaker called 911 to request assistance. The FCSAR Unit was dispatched to provide rescue services. They set up base camp along Highway 20, snowmobiled to the kayaker’s location, and assessed him. The kayaker was provided with warm, dry clothing and transported to the FCSAR base camp. After he warmed up, he was taken to his vehicle at Osborne Bridge.f
Jan. 23 (2F.2021-01) — Two injured snowmobilers near Indian Lake - At 3:20 PM on January 23, 2021, Fremont County Search & Rescue responded to the Indian Lake area east of Ashton to assist Ashton ambulance in bringing out a couple of snowmobilers who had collided. At 4:45 PM one person was transported via air ambulance; the other person was able to ride her snowmobile out to the FCSAR base camp.
